Last Saturday night Bryce had me playing the role of nurse. We had gone swimming with the kids, when we got back I had put Bryce in the shower and started preparing the girls to hop in as soon as he was finished. It was about 8pm and I had to be at work for one of my last night shifts for a co-worker. I went in the bathroom opened the shower door to get Bryce out and noticed blood running from his chin down his chest. I said, why are you bleeding?. He said, I don't know... he hadn't even noticed it! I lifted up his chin and he had about a 1/2-1inch laceration on his chin and from looking at it, I figured it needed at least 2 stitches, maybe 3. I said, Bryce did you hit something? He told me that he had climbed up on the bench that is in our shower and slipped and hit the ledge in the shower. It seems impossible to me, because that ledge is so smooth, and how could it have done that much damage...well I really didn't want to go the ER since I already had to be there in 3hrs anyway. I had told Brandon at first that I for sure was going to have to take Bryce to the ER. He had to talk me into nursing it up myself. So I went to the store and bought some liquid bandage, and butterfly closures. It was such a clean cut, that it closed perfectly back together, so I cleaned it, closed it and used the liquid bandage...which by the way works great for small cuts like this was. It has been a week and the site looks great. It was well worth saving $500 dollars.

Now Bryce and I will have matching scars! Mine is under my chin from jumping into a swimming pool when I was about six.
I learned a long time ago that the ordeal of getting stitches for minor cuts is so not worth it! If you had taken Bryce in, they probably would have only glued it anyway. Like you said, save your money!
Where were you when the 100 lb ride-on train at Dave's parents derailed into my middle finger? They told me to go to the ER, said it could use stitches and then had a Med Tech put a butterfly bandage on it. I was so mad they wasted my time. It looked like an ugly mess afterwards too. I would way rather pay you the ER bill.
Afton forgot to mention that she was practically dialing 911 when I told her the cut was not bleeding.
It went something like this-
Afton- "Ohh my gosh...Bryce has a deep lac (hospital jargon for laceration) from the bottom of his chin to the back of his eyeballs. Bryce, get dressed! We need to go to the ER now!"
Brandon- "It really doesn't look very big and it's not bleeding. If Bryce was just another kid that walked into the ER, what would you guys do?"
Afton- "Nothing."
Brandon- "So what do you think we should do?"
Afton- "Got to the ER!"
Brandon- "How bout we do what they are going to do and put some liquid bandage and a butterfly on it."
Afton- "I want to take him to the ER!"
She was acting more like his heart had stopped beating when all he had was a cut on his chin. It wasn't mom the nurse, it was mom the crazy lady.
Stop it! Whatever...I started reading this and patients were walking in and I was laughing so hard that I couldn't even take down their infomation.
Ok, Ok, I admit that Brandon's Story does portray alittle bit of what really happened. But just to clear something up...and Brandon's know this is true. The cut was not long but deep and I was more worried about infection. Yes, if I had taken him in to the ER they probably would have used the glue and a butterfly bandage, but it was my baby boy...also another thing that plays into account is I was running on very little sleep and was not thinking rationally!
I love to hear the two sides of y'alls stories. They are always so funny, especially Brandon's take on them. He has such a great sense of humor. He always makes me laugh so hard. Remember New Years Eve with Tammy and Frank? I still laugh so hard when I think of that night. We need to get together again soon. Should we all meet somewhere? Say, Utah or Colorado? We miss you guys so much. Move to Louisiana!
BTW...I would love the horse. Do you think it would take more than one stamp to ship him?
what were we laughing about New Year's eve? I remember the laughter, but not the subject. Had to be something freakin' awesome. By the way Melinda, it's spelled Tami.
